Kristin Neff

Being human is not about being any one particular way; it is about being as life creates you—with your own particular strengths and weaknesses, gifts and challenges, quirks and oddities.

Christopher Germer

Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.

What is the MSC Core-Skills Workshop?

  • This 2-day workshop is an introduction to Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), an empirically-supported training program based on the clinical perspective of Chris Germer and the pioneering research of Kristin Neff.

  • MSC combines your inner resources of mindfulness and self-compassion, which every human being has, to strengthen your resilience and wellbeing. Mindfulness is the first step—turning with open, nonjudgmental awareness toward difficult experience (emotions, sensations, thoughts). Self-compassion comes next—bringing warm-hearted kindness and encouragement to ourselves.  Self-compassion includes numerous skills such as the capacity to comfort, soothe and validate ourselves, but also to protect and provide for ourselves, and to motivate ourselves to achieve our goals. Together, mindfulness and self-compassion help us learn to support ourselves the same way we support a good friend during difficult moments of our lives.

  •  People all over the world are learning to practice Mindful Self-Compassion.  This is your opportunity to join and grow!

The Guides

Both Ben Weinstein and Siri Chandler are  Certified Teachers of Mindful Self-Compassion.

  • Ben Weinstein, PhD is a Clinical Psychologist, lecturer and trainer serving expatriate and local communities across Southeast Asia since 2003. 2-Day MSC Core Skills Live, Online Workshop Learning Goals

Fortunately, self-compassion can be learned by anyone; no previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is necessary. This workshop introduces the MSC curriculum which includes numerous skills and guided meditations. After participating in this two-day workshop, you will be able to:

  • Practice “bite-sized” self-compassion in daily life

  • Understand the science of self-compassion

  • Neutralize self criticism

  • Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism

  • Handle difficult emotions with greater ease

  • Manage the fatigue of taking care of others

  • Practice the art of savoring and self-appreciation

  • Program activities include talks, meditation, experiential exercises, and group discussion. Participants will directly experience self-compassion and learn practices to evoke self-compassion in daily life. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend the program.

How Does A Live Online Workshop Go?

This will be a fast-paced interactive workshop that reproduces many of the features of an in-person workshop. You will not be listening to boring, endless lecture.  Brief topic presentation will be interspersed with experiential exercises and skill practice along with small-group discussions, followed by large-group Q/A, before moving on to the next topic and skill.

Who Can Join?

Any adult anywhere in the Asia-Pacific region is welcome to join!  All you need are English proficiency and a good internet connection.  No previous experience with mindfulness is necessary.  All human beings welcome!
